BETH CAMERON, nationally
and internationally recognized doll artist, announces a special series
of Doll Artistry Workshops to be held at her Pittsburgh studio. Cameron is a 10 year exhibitor at the New York International Toy
Fair, a frequent exhibitor in museums and galleries and a featured artist
in numerous books and magazines. She is a Fine Arts graduate of Carnegie
Mellon University.
The workshops will focus on the
development and creative process used by Cameron to design distinctive
one-of-a-kind figurative sculptures. Her creative thinking and approach
to design will provide a foundation for hands-on experience to assist
each participant in the development of their own creativity and unique
style. Sculpting techniques using Cernit and Fimo will be presented using
a Santa-like character for demonstration purposes. Participants will have
the opportunity to work in these two mediums and learn new skills from
Cameron. Costuming, body construction, and accessories will be discussed
generally and may be topics of detailed workshop sessions in the future.
Workshop sessions will be held at Cameron's private
studio in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, a small town northeast of Pittsburgh.
Located on a beautiful five-acre site, this quiet, private setting provides
an ideal atmosphere for demonstration, discussion and inspiration about
the creative process that results in unique sculptures.
Sessions are limited to six persons at a cost of
$500 per person. (Minimum of four participants required; private sessions
available for additional fee.) Groups of 4 or more can request alternate
workshop dates. Please call to arrange schedule. Registration fee
includes an evening Welcome Reception, continental breakfast, and lunch
each day. Materials, tools and handouts required for use during the workshop
are included. Arrangements and cost of lodging, evening meals and transportation
are the sole responsibility of each participant. Information on convenient
lodging will be sent on request with registration confirmation.
Prior to each workshop, Beth asks that participants
send several photographs of their work, if available. Each participant
is also asked to complete a brief questionnaire about their experience
and interest in doll-making. In this way, workshop sessions can be constructed
to consider the needs of all participants. The level of participant skills
and knowledge may vary. Limited time for individual attention and critique
will be built into session time. Participants may bring one piece, either
finished or in-progress. Private time for individual attention, instruction
or critiques may be scheduled for an additional fee.
Please bring comfortable and informal clothing. For
your comfort, please know that Beth has two cats that may or may not appear
as cats will do. Opportunities for photography will be limited and at
Beth's discretion. No audio or video taping will be permitted. Please
refrain from use of aftershave and perfumes. Smoking is not permitted
during sessions and only allowed in a designated area outdoors.
